There's an island hidden in the sound
Lapping currents lay your boat to ground...
Lost is back. Oh my goodness. Even a new mommy has made time to watch it. In 20 minute increments, but watch it I did. I love that show.
Scroll down for knitting!
Rough Waters.
We had a ROUGH week here at HEK. The Bug had a really rough week. His acid reflux was acting up and his medical mommy was too stupid to realize his med dosing needed adjusting until he had symptoms again. So sorry, Bug. I will try to be a smarter mommy in the future.
The HE MIL came to our aid and stayed three days and helped SO MUCH. Thank you, Carolyn. You rawk.
Things are (dare I type) a little better and the Bug seems to be much more comfortable and sleeping and eating better. Thank goodness. I hated seeing him so miserable.

This boy is feeling better.
Another FO! WOO WEE!
It took 9 weeks to sew in a sleeve. But! Sew it in I did. The husband swecker is done!

Of course he insisted on action shots.

So the only standing still shot is the back:

I am pretty pleased overall with it. I am still wanting to tweak the neck a bit, but otherwise I'm happy. Of course, had I re-read Becky's post, I would have seen how she tweaked the neck. Blast!
Yarn: Phildar Pegase
Needles: US 7
Inspiration? Fluffa! She knit the same one for her hubby.
In the process of making it, I did have to make an alteration. Initially, when putting it together, it produced what my husband deemed "man boobs":

To fix this "unsightly" gynecomastia, I added underarm gussets. What I did was to open the underarm seams to create a diamond shape:

Then, I knitted a diamond shape to match, and sewed it in:

I'm pretty pleased with the results! I also, as I always do, modified the length and sleeve lengths to suit the hubby. I used a sweater he had that fit him well as a model. Hooray!
You know it's you... baaaaaaabe...
Givin' me the courage and the strength I need...
Please belieeeeeeeve... that it's true... Babe I love you...
Oh Lord. You'd think that I'd break out the Styx for a loving tribute to our son?
Well, I might. But actually that's a reference to the fact that two nights ago he decided to be inconsolable for 4 hours from 6:30pm to 10:30pm.
So, like all parents we tried all sorts of things. He was fed, and refed, and clean, and dry, and hated all options (you know, bouncy chair, swing, swaddled, unswaddled, held, put down, dark, light, etc.)
So we put on Styx's Greatest Hits. And his dad danced him around the front room.

Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto.
It worked as well as about anything else.
He did eventually conk out. And I have evidence he does sleep:

Actually, since then, he has gone down pretty easy and we have a new routine that is working for him. So keep yer fingers crossed!
The Bug is the new Baby now.*
I should also tell you that we don't actually call him the HEB around the house. We call him Bug.
Or The Bug. Or Buglet. Or Bugaboo. But mostly Bug.
So I will likely refer to him as such and didn't want anyone to get confused. ;-)
I have to add this disclaimer: I may complain about lack of sleep and all that newborn crap, but we love this kid so much. We feel so lucky to have him in our lives. Suddenly I can't imagine my life without him. Even when he cries for four hours. He's just the best.
So thanks again to all of you for your support during our fertility woes and pregnancy issues! We are a happy crew.
*I am here to tell you. There is a song for EVERYTHING. The HE Mom taught me that. My Mom can come up with a song for like any phrase/idea. It's AMAZING.
The "bug is the new baby" quote is from the Flaming Lips off of their Zaireeka album. How funny is that!
Last night I didn't get to sleep...
Didn't get to sleep, no I didn't get to sleep at allll....
Note: There IS knitting! Keep scrolling if'n you want to skip the baby news.
I've been wanting to use those 5th Dimension lyrics ever since the HEB was born. And for the most part they've been true. However, last night I think I got THREE HOURS in a row! WOW! That's enough to make me feel like a new woman!
Almost.
We are working on sleep over here. See, I love sleep. Love love love it. I am happiest with 9-10 hours a DAY. I am highly jealous of people, like the HE Husband, who can feel decent on 7 hours. I can't do it.
When I was pregnant, sometimes I slept like 12-14 hours! At a time! Zowie! I loved it.
But, the HEB doesn't seem to have inherited this love of sleep. Oh no. If I was a baby I'd do nothing but sleep and eat. But apparently things are INTERESTING. Like lights. Or ceiling fans. Or things are ANGER producing. Like being cold after a bath. Or being overstimulated. Or rubber ducks. Or books with hippos. Or the wrong onesie.
But I digress. The little man does sleep some, so I cannot complain. But let me tell you, 1.5 hours ain't 10. So we have had many talks about why sleep is good, important, and healing.
I'm sure he'll change his mind soon. He'll come around.
Thanks!
Thanks for all the ideas about baby wraps and slings. Ultimately I decided to get a Moby, because right after I posted I was able to try one on at a breastfeeding group, and I liked it. The HEB likes it too, for the most part.
Here's a view of it in action:

And my view:

So. Sleepy. Maybe.
KNITTING! Are you KIDDING?
Yes, there was some knitting. Ok, most of it was done before the HEB. And the rest mostly finished while he was in the NICU and I did a lot of waiting around, but Still! Knitting!
This is a baby sweater I never even got the chance to blog about, really. It's for my friend Rachel's new daughter, who is bee-yoo-ti-ful, I might add.

And a close-up:

Specs: Debbie Bliss Wool Cotton. STASH YARN. (Gasp!) On US 3 and 4. Pattern from Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. Size 6 months (and of course it's still huge).
I love DB Wool Cotton. I am so sad that it was discontinued. It was truly a joy to knit with. I really enjoyed this little project, and it was great to finish something.
I get by with a little help from my friends.
I need a sock pattern to knit for my dad. It has to be able to use Koigu yarn, which is a fingering weight, and the yarn is a slightly variegated (but only just a little bit) dark blue. The criteria? Not fancy or cabley or too interesting. Not GIRLIE. But, the last time I made him 2x2 ribbed socks and I thought I'd stab myself with a dpn to allay the sheer boredom. And since I have very little knitting time right now, if any, I'd like it to be a little interesting.
Your thoughts?
