Updates!

Well, it's about damn time.

Yes, hmmm, you all might think I have not been knitting, what with the lack of pics and all. But it's not true!

A) I have TURNED THE HEEL on my 2nd "killing me softly" sock for my dad - [sirens, klaxons, people moving fast] - THE HEEL HAS BEEN TURNED, I REPEAT, THE HEEL HAS BEEN TURNED.

B) I finished the body of Vimmerby.

And it goes so well with the shirt I have on.

Some Vimmerby project notes music, Paul...

Let's have a bit of a chat about this sweater, for the newbies.

1) I knit it in the round, and steeked the sleeves. The pattern was written to knit flat. If you convert a pattern like this, be aware if it has edge stitches built in you have to take those out when you knit it in the round.

2) Let's have a slideshow of the steeking, shall we? Click here. You CAN steek, my dear ones. You must not be afraid to cut the sweater. "Do, or do not. There is no try."*

3) I am knitting the sleeves in the round too. I have one sleeve half done. Knitting fair isle on dpns is still a challenge for me.

4) Fair isle in general: I use wooden needles, and yarn in each hand. I spread the stitches out before changing to the next color, to help it not bunch up. This takes much practice, so do not be upset if at first your fair isle is a bit puckered.

Valentines

I leave you with pictures of two things I LOVE.

Oh, Necco Sweethearts. Every year we await your return.

That certainly is one glamorous outfit. Your sweater looks really nice, and I like the steek! Interesting sweater technique, I never would have thought to do that.

I second your ode to the Necco Sweethearts. I had forgotten about them until I got a box in the mail last week. They’re so good!!

nona thinks you are very brave to do the steek thing. I haven't steeked in a long time and am now inpired to steek my next sweater. As for candy hearts -- the first Valentine's day I was dating nona-Hubby he gave me three candy hearts. I kepts these candy hearts in my wallet for about 3 years before nona-sister asked me what they were. After relating my sentimental story, she promptly ate them. What are sisters for?!

And WE love YOU!
I had to stifle a snort when reading that something in the land o' knitting (fair isle on dpns) was a challenge for you. No, no, I totally respect that statement, but I will have to force myself to believe it, o knitting one. You are rad! Happy early VD (hee hee!)! xo MJ

Congratulations on being ALMOST FINISHED with the killing me softly socks.

Vimmerby is so beautiful - even more so in person. I can't wait for you to teach us fair isle so that someday I too can casually talk about what a pain fair isle on dpns is. And use words like "steek" in everyday conversation. :)

ohhhh! How I adore Necco Sweethearts! Of course I knew you have been knitting! Jenny, Vimmerby is looking fab so far! I have never tried that & I think I would be scared. One day!

Vimmerby is fabby, fer sure! I can't wait to see it done. The steek, it scares me, I must admit. But clearly you are rocking it.

How is it Valentine's Day already??? This month is flying by...

All I can say is "wow". I'm always impressed :)

And she steeks, too! You ARE the Master of Your Knitting Universe. I bow to your steeking talents.

P.S. Paragraph A made me laugh out loud. I actually imagined you shouting it through a bullhorn.

Vimmerby looks amazing! (But she might go better with a more sedate blouse. *smile*). Can't wait to see the sleeves.

Your sweater is awesome!!! Seriously, I can't believe you made that. (see I read your blog!)

Oh my, your slideshow is sooooo scary. I could never cut anything! I can't even rip out stitches. I can only move on...that's why nothing fits. Anyway, Richard Gere! Really?! I'm with you on the O Brother and GI Jane. I loved those flicks.

That's such a lovely pattern! Great job doing it in the round.

And way cool shirt you've got there! :)
