Bea Arthur wannabe.

Public Service Announcement

A tip: When chair dancing to "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" while listening to your ipod, try not to drop it on the floor.

Seems to be okay. Ozzy says so. He also says we're going off the rails on a crazy train. Not sure if this is a generalization.

SO, you're listening to music AND blogging...

Yes, er no. You have my full and undivided attention. Did you say something?

February March is for fixin' Making Things Over

So, last early last year I made this sweater, from Debbie Bliss Cashmere Collection in Cashmerino Superchunky. Warm, lovely green, oversized sweater.

Quick to knit, gauge right on. One size fits all. I knew it was oversized, but I didn't realize it'd be OVERSIZED.

To whit. Your honor, I offer exhibit A*:

bigdebbiebliss.jpg
Exhibit B*: It's freaking HUGE!

The lovely Anne Marie is helping me model. She said it looks like something Bea Arthur from the 1980's TV show The Golden Girls would wear. For those of you not privy to said TV show, it was about four elderly women living in a retirement community. Oh, yeah.

Take a minute to look at the model in the picture. Does she look like she's drowning in sweater? I don't think so. She seems to be breathing comfortably. Maybe they tied a bunch of it behind her, like they do on shop window models. And yes, I'm sure she's a bit taller than I am. [No comment on that required, really.]

So, whatcha gonna do? Cry, baby?

But I can't frog it. I just can't. It's so so so warm, and soft. I wear it all over the house. I wear it to bed when it's really cold (<66°F). I love it.

I have therefore decided to knit it again. This time in Cashmerino Aran. This way I can actually wear one of these out of the house. It's coming out about 3/4 the size, and I'll adjust accordingly for the sleeves if need be. OOH! Knitting math!**

I'll have the Book Meme next time, I promise Marta! Thanks again to all ya'll for stoppin' by!

**If Becky flies from France to the US leaving at 8am and travelling at 500 mph, and Jenny leaves the previous night at 10pm from the US to fly to France travelling at 550 mph, how many skeins of yarn will they bring between them? (20 points)

I love it!! I love it huge and warm and OVERSIZED!! (Although, it is a bit big.) It could be a fabulous jacket!

Dang, now I want to knit me one of those great big things.

i love it! although you're right it is a little on the large size. so what are you planning on doing with the original oversized version?

oh it looks sooo comfy. i want to knit that now. i think that is the same yarn that i have been storing away for marilyn (fingers crossed) and if so i will knit that sweater instead. i just love it and totally understand you not wanting to rip her. what a comfy oversized sweater. i have one thats fits like that too(i didn't knit it though). love your pics! take care!

Jenny - wow, it's so beautiful! I was getting nervous as I scrolled down and I am so glad that you are not going to rip it. I love the color too...Maybe I will knit one - it looks very texturally pleasing! (That's my weird way of admiring cables, hee hee).

I'm a newcomer to your blog and just had to comment here!

One of the best lessons I learned early in my career was from Maggi Righetti's "Knitting in Plain English." The title for the first chapter says it all:

You Can Always Tell What's Wrong With The Garment By The Way The Model Is Posed or Slender Five-Foot-Ten-Inch-Tall Models Can Look Good In Anything

Truer words have never been spoken! Happy repurposing!

I love it..It's one of those trusty I am chilly and I need some snuggles sweaters. So happy you aren't going to rip.

Heehee. Love the expose pics! hehehe

You slay me! Bea Arthur! But you know what? I'm so glad that you're not frogging it. You keep that oversized Bea Arthur smock! It looks comfy and cosy and something I wish I could wear, like, right now as it's snowing outside.

The thought of you listening to Ozzy Osbourne and blogging makes me laugh! Ha! I love the oversized version of the sweater...it will come in hand when you get really old and crotchety and yell grumpy things at neighborhood kids making noise and when you are all curled up in your craft-o-matice senior citizen bed and knitting, since you won't be baking cookies because of your rejection of anything that has to be cooked or prepared. Was that a run-on sentence?

The DB sweater looks cute on you--even if it could fit both you AND Anne Marie in there! Tee hee! Have fun knitting The Sequel!

Think this way: oversized, u can wear cosily. Undersized, no way...it's gonna go to the rip pond or to someone else!

LOL Yup, looks just like a Bea Arther sweater. Glad you have the guts to knit it again. I don't think I could manage it.

The Golden Girls is one of my favorite shows all time shows. I agree...Bea Arthur.

Now I'm curious to see how this one will fit. Glad your not frogging either.

Love the Bea Arthur comment! You could belt it, put on colored stockings and wear it as a dress like we all did in the 80's!

:)
Jen

You said ya'll! Heh heh.

did you say the golden girls? save that sweater baby! a certain knitting roommie of mine is obsessed with the golden girls and is thinking of throwing a golden girls themed party. i think i know what you can wear that would be just perfect...

Having actually curled up on your couch in the Bea Arthur sweater, I have to say that it is marvelously comfortable and warm. Oh yes. And Jenna is SO not kidding about the Golden Girls party.

Thatis the best photo I have seen in a LONG time!! Oversized or not it is a WONDERFUL sweater - wear it with honor
Betsy

Hi there! I just wanted to give you a heads up--I went to the post today:) You should have socks to wear with that yummy sweater by Monday.
And I guess...6 skeins each;)

That sweater looks so cozy! I wouldn't be able to rip it out either. Can't wait to see the new one and all those cool projects!
