High Energy Spins?

I got some roving.

Just kidding.

I'm not learning to spin. I will NOT be sucked in by those highly-suggestible types who have given in to the dark side. Yet, anyway. But if I start, I have enough dog hair to last a long long time.

Did I mention I HATE packing?

Can't stand packing. REALLY stresses me out. And since we are going to Hawai'i tomorrow today, I must pack. And it's 4:19 am and I just finished. Maybe.

Of course, most of the consternation, really, and let's just be frank and own up to it, is what knitting to pack. You knew it was coming. (People, I don't write the stuff, I just live it.)

Anyway, HEJ travel knitting must be:

  • 1. Portable.

  • 2. Easy enough to chat with others who are not knitters while knitting it.

  • 3. Not too extra-implement heavy.

  • 4. Enough NOT to RUN OUT of knitting. Very important.
  • So, initially I was going to take NBaT. But it violates #3 due to the intarsia and short row shoulders etc. and also isn't enough to prevent 4.

Got a bunch of new lace knitting, but it's all too complicated to do while chatting, thus violating #2.

Then I remembered my Second French Market Bag, for my friend Ivey:

    Perfect.

And just to be safe, I'm going to bring this cool shrug I started too:

Maybe I can have it finished while I'm there. I am using the sadly discontinued Cotton Ease, which I like but couldn't possibly love as much as this person.

I might, or might not, have also packed some sock yarn. Just to be safe.

OK, kids, back in a week or so. As always, mahalo for stopping by HEK.

Oh, and thanks for all the well wishes about my finger. It's much better. ;-)

Whoa, surprise! How did I miss the whole "I am going to Hawaii" thing? I am so freaking excited about my trip there in October that I am telling everyone! TAKE LOADS of PICS!

That lacey shrug is a beauty--can't wait to see more!

    Have a fab time!

Have an AMAZING time! I've been there twice and both times it was completely wonderful!

I always see shooting stars in Hawaii. Make sure you make a wish!

Oh and I got the Dali print - thanks for reminding me about it.

You lucky girl! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Hawaii. I went to Maui about 3 years ago & fell in love with the scenery, the food, the weather, etc....We are going back in February & I can not wait!!

Have a fantastic trip. We will miss you! ;-)

Glad to hear your finger is better and you can knit! It looks like you are all set with your vacation knitting. You have inspired me to wind up a few skeins to start getting ready for my impending trip too--oh, and pack clothes and all that other peripheral stuff. Enjoy your island getaway!

Have fun in Hawaii! We went there for our honeymoon last year and LOVED it.

Travel well and come back safely!

Aloha! Have fun! Remember your sunscreen!

You were thinking it. You were looking at that pile of hair and you were thinking it. Not only that, but you took pictures of it AND blogged about it.

    Should I send you a spindle? ;-)

Except, stick with the fleecey types, okay? I mean, can you just imagine wearing something spun from dog hair and getting caught in the rain...the smell alone might kill you...

Have a wicked good time in Hawaii :-)

Wait, is that roving or dog fur in the top photo?? Hope you have a great Hawaii trip with lots of beach relaxation!

Oooohhhhh! Hawaii! Enjoy your trip, knit lots and take lots of pics.

The "roving" cracked me up, by the way. NICE!

OK - ewwww. The thought of spinning my dogs' hair just yucks me right out! I know it can be done, but...why??? The ball of doggy-fluff looks like every underneath palce in my house! HEE Oh, and I have a few extra spindles and some great roving - want some? ;)

Have a GREAT time in Hawaii - I'm so jealous.

Have a great time in Hawaii! I know about the knit packing, I will definitely have to adopt your rules! Aloha!

have a wonderful wonderful time in Hawaii! Catch some rays for me... it's the middle of winter over here BRRR! Can't wait to see piccies when you get back.

i'm so jealous... so many knitting options... no just kidding, i'm jealous that you'll be knitting in hawaii... have fun!!!

Hawaii! I hope you have a great time! *trying not to be insanely jealous*

You should see how much hair my dog sheds in a week. He's 80 pounds of hair, but that's what I get for owning a collie-mix. If I were the spinning type, I would be set for life.

I am very sad that Cotton-Ease has been discontinued, but I have 57 skeins that I am trying to make myself ration out. Must....conserve...cotton ease!

You totally crack me up. For one brief second I really thought you had taken up with them there spinners, girl!

i do love my cottonease. have a great trip!

OMG I totally thought that was roving too. You can spin up some lovely Sadie Schmoo dog hair yarny yarn.

I hope you are having a marvelous time! Can't wait to see you when you get back! (And good job on the knitting decisions.)

Good grief woman...next trip, I am coming over to your house and packing your clothes for you. Carrie will not be allowed to help. She takes as long deliberating about packing as you do. Of course you may assist me, but you may only answer with 'yes', 'no' or 'Anne Marie is a packing goddess'. You must select two pairs of shoes. You may not pack Sadie's roving fur or anything else 'just in case'.
Hawaii -- flip flops, bathing suit, sunscreen, man.
